Security & your data

You are handing over the whole ledger.

That deserves more than a line in an FAQ. Here is exactly where your books live, who can read them, what crosses a border and what never does.

Common questions

Where is my data stored?

In India. Your books, your documents and your history sit in AWS ap-south-1 (Mumbai), encrypted at rest, and they are not copied anywhere else.

Does anything leave India?

The stored data does not. The AI processing does: when you ask a question, the relevant part of your data is sent to Anthropic's models to generate the answer, and that inference may run outside India. It is covered by contract, the data is not retained for training, and nothing is stored outside the country. We would rather say this plainly than let you find it in the privacy policy.

Is it encrypted?

Yes — in transit (TLS) and at rest. Documents in the Vault are stored with server-side encryption using a managed key, and the database is encrypted at rest.

Can SnapBooks change my books without me?

No. Every write to Tally is drafted, shown to you in full, and posted only after you approve it in the chat. Nothing is written silently, and everything written is traceable to the message that approved it.

Who inside my business can see what?

Access is per person and per company. Someone added to one company sees that company only. Your CA sees the clients you give them and nothing else. Every company's data is isolated at the database level, not just in the interface.

Do you sell my data, or train public AI models on my books?

No, and no. We do not sell or share business data with anyone, and your ledgers are not used to train anyone's models — ours or the model provider's.

What happens if I leave?

Export what you need, then delete the account — books, documents and history go with it. If you came in on Tally, your Tally is untouched and complete throughout; nothing was ever moved out of it.

What does the connector on my machine actually do?

It reads your Tally company data and sends it to your SnapBooks tenant over an authenticated channel, and it applies vouchers you have approved. It does not open your machine to us — there is no remote access, no screen sharing, and no ability to run anything else on that computer.

Who do I contact about a security question?

Write to team@snapbooks.co.in and it reaches the founders directly. If you need a security review before signing, ask — we would rather answer the questions than have you guess.
